Quenched reduction is revisited from the modern viewpoint of field-orbifolding. Fermions are included and it is shown how the old problem of preserving anomalies and field topology after reduction is solved with the help of the overlap construction.

We determine the topological susceptibility in the SU(3) pure gauge theory. We perform a series of high-statistics lattice studies and take the combined continuum and infinite volume limit. We find χtopr 4 0 = 0.0524(7)(6), which translates into χ 1/4 top = 193(1)(8)MeV with the second error exclusively due to the intrinsic scale ambiguity.
